The MAGA movement is built on a very precarious cult of personality around Donald Trump, which is doomed to fail in the near future. Trump can't legally run again after this, and trying to change the law ahead of 2028 would be a losing battle because even if you win Trump himself probably won't even be ALIVE long enough for a third term, old age is a bitch and you can't argue with the reaper.
The problem is that without Trump, there is no MAGA platform. Aside from being anti-immigration, he's flipped and flopped on everything else based on whoever spoke in his ear last, so there isn't a strong core policy identity to build around. But the Republican party can't survive without MAGA voters, they need that power block to stay together or at least stay voting.
There is a power vacuum coming in the Republican party, and everyone knows it. What we are seeing now is people fighting over control of the narrative surrounding Maga to declare positions in the succession crises. There is a lot of opportunity for people to play kingmaker in the next few years, and the strongest voices on the rightwing media side all consider each other to be the biggest threats to their own power.
