How would a checkers/chess hybrid play like?

The rules for both games stay exactly the same, but there is a catch. You MUST pick one game to make a move in at every turn, while the game you did not play is forfeited for that turn.

Whoever wins at either game first is the winner.

He stopped defending his world title because it was too time consuming and he has money-making ventures to run. He still competes in other tournaments, wins more of them than anybody else and has a higher rating than anybody else still.
Everyone knows he's the best. When he recently lost a classical match to Gukesh, the nominal world champ, everyone was saying it's over, but Magnus has lost matches to many people, but he's won many more than he's lost and this is why he's still de facto #1, despite what the bobblehead jeets want to claim.

Women would absolutely dominate at chess if the governing admins of the match made a rule that each time her queen is killed in action she gets it back at its starting point immediately on her next turn, giving her immortal queen power
Then they could just be as wasteful as they want to eliminate your most dangerous pieces and still have at least one key piece to checkmate your king with

Preferential treatment and special rules is like having hacks in a game, anyone you do that for is gonna end up with an overpowered advantage

Chess is like videogames - great as an occasional toy but very foolish to spend a really long time at it or take it too seriously or judge people by their rating.

I like Siegbert Tarrasch - he was a medical doctor so he can't have spent that much time on chess, yet he was one of the top chess masters in the world. He wrote a great book about how to play chess, and had brilliance without devoting his life to it.

There are male and female tournaments because males and females have different brains and men are better at this particular thing. Same reason why you can count the amount of black grandmasters on one hand.

While fine as a toy it can be a dangerous, dangerous thing to take too seriously. You may laugh this off "lol it's just chess", but you don't see the danger. A famous chessplayer called Blackbourne said he knew of many an abled man who had ruined his life over playing chess (they were probably good players but never quite made it to the elite and tried to make it there).

Blackburne sounds like a very cool dude also now that I read what he said again - snakes like Kasparov are all the time pushing it on schools and stuff while Blackburn says absolutely not. There are different types of intelligence.

Shlomo the lawyer helps a guilty criminal beat the law.
Shlomo goes home, and is whipped into total slavery by the manipulations of his wife Sarah.
Sarah listens to the news and is easily tricked by government propaganda and advertising.
Etc.

Different types of intelligence, and everyone has blind spots they are weak in.
AI can beat the best human chess players anyways, so it might be better to focus on other types of intelligence than pure logic, which is where a computer is king.

You can think of woman in STEM as the woman who are chasing the STEM guys.

Nobody wants to admit it because Fischer famously stopped playing chess because he deemed it too boring and clinical and devoid of creative play. Also he got ultra redpilled on Jews and spent the rest of his life speaking out against them, Israel, and the US.

The problem with this is that way less women play chess. So naturally, the people who will be on top will be all men, because men will be over-represented at all levels, with the far ends of the distribution being the most uniform. That's not to say it's impossible for women to reach the top of chess. Judit PolgΓ‘r was a top 10 player. I'm sure there are plenty of women out in the world, who if they seriously applied themselves to chess from a young age, would go on to become top players. As would be many men who don't play chess. Sometimes you have the ability, but you simply lack the interest, because the activity doesn't gel well with your personality. How many women do great at math in K-12 education, but then go to med school. It's the same thing; That being said, I don't think the disproportion in the gender ratio of chess players will ever go away. Men and women have different personality distributions, so it will be more common for men to be interested in chess. Even if the talent they have for the game is lesser than that of someone else who is simply uninterested.

When Fischer was throwing an autistic hissy-fit over in the Soviet Union and threatening not to play at all, everyone (including Spassky and the Soviet teams) knew that it wouldn't mean anything for them to claim victory in this way simply because EVERYONE knew Fischer was by far the best chess player currently playing. There's another possibility in chess that I think adds another dimension to it, other people might not like this as much, it reminds me of football versus other sports.

The idea of getting defensive play, turtling, "parking the bus". I'm not saying play all games boring, that sucks and is pathetic. I'm saying occasionally you could batten down the hatches and make the opponent "prove" their superiority if it's there, and then trying desperately to win they could leave themselves open behind, and suddenly you could get a great counter and now going for a win rather than a draw. Chess has that aggressive vs defensive balancing.

Fischer is arguably the GOAT. Among all of the GOAT-contenders he gapped his competition the hardest in terms of rating. Where this assessment potentially falls a bit is in A) his longevity and B) scrutiny by computers. What I mean by that is that while gapping your competition is impressive in its own right, doing so while everyone can study with computers is another beast entirely. Not to take away from his brilliance though, it just becomes hard to faithfully compare him to say Magnus.

no argument. Go is clearly a purer abstract strategy game. I regret that I didn't learn it earlier, because there is far more depth to it both tactically and strategically.
Chess is different. It started as a real battle simulation, based on the four parts of an Indian battilion (Chaturanga = "four parts": chariots, cavalry, elephants, and infantry), where it was teaching the young lordlings how to best use the disparate abilities of the forces under their command.

Chess actually has some elements of those as well. Some people find it surprising that chess has chance, however chance occurs because neither player can see fully ahead, so they have to make assessments based on logic. But though the logic may be fine, there could be some twist or exceptional situation at the end that means the assumptions were invalid. The reason why weaker players occasionally beat stronger players is usually because of some hugely unlikely scenario turning out to be the reality.

Similarly you can bluff in chess, Capablanca famous said that Alekhine's game was 20% bluff, around the time he was fighting him for the world title. Hikaru also sometimes says "I simply don't believe him" about his opponent when playing live on stream if his opponent is bringing his pieces forward as if he were going to attack - these moves by the opponent threaten to destroy the kingside, it would be a mistake to bring them forward like this if there was no legitimate attack - hence the "bluff", and the defender has to be real careful in making sure that the attack doesn't work before he proceeds to work on his own play, rather than panicking and bringing pieces back to defend unnecessarily.

Maybe specifically high level bullet differs, but only because you have an opportunity to put your opponent off balance to stall for time, but to do that you have to know what your opponent is likely to have studied, which is arduous for its own reasons, and studying certain lines would necessarily be effective to railroad people down and cheese victories in bullet anyway.
Yeah humans are bad at computing things when they have to spend as little time as possible thinking, who knew.

Go is solved by AI too, what is this orientalist bullshit. It's yet another solved board game. Even backgammon is solved by this point. Also the history of Go is completely insane. Yes we played this game 2000 years ago in the Tang Dynasty even though there's no mention of anyone playing it prior to the 19th century and it was only introduced to the west in the 19th century by some German physicist Oskar Korschelt. It has about the same historic depth as Snakes&Ladders and is about as deep too. The reason for all the historic larping behind it is because they were trying to introduce modern military tactics to the orient by lying and telling their leaders it was a billion year old tradition. If you want to jerk off about which game has the deepest strategic depth it's this game called advanced square leader, but it's boring as hell and is basically only used for actual WW2-era military training.

The first place it's detailed was Japan, which makes no sense because the west was far more involved with China, but China blames the Manchus for destroying their culture and the narrative at the time was that Japan created the game. I've read Englebert Kaempfer, Isaac Titsingh, Sir Alcock Rutherford (big note on him because this was after they opened up in the 1850s), Louis Frois and other Jesuits, They Came to Japan (travelogue), the original American mission to Japan, Karl Thunberg, and a few others I can't remember atm. Not once, in any page detailing detailing recreation was it ever mentioned. Only 20 years after Alcock did some German guy find this mystical oriental game and try selling it to the west, like how does this even happen? Alcock spent 3 years in Japan and was constantly among the nobility and it isn't mentioned once? I read two books of his (400 pages each) where he details what feels like every single blade of grass and this isn't mentioned at all? Btw Snakes & Ladders also professes to be like a thousand year old mystical board game practiced by tantric monks or whatever.

Also his generation didn't have computer technology to test out new strategies on. It was all books and imagination.

>judit polgar
the one woman who once cracked the top ten has an interesting story. her father believed he could take any child and make them a genius and so she and her sisters were trained on chess intensively from the time of her birth. it kind of worked. the father then proclaimed he could do the same with the darkest nigger from Africa. he abandoned this experiment without comment shortly after it started. they're kikes of course.

Judith Polgar is really good though, she always finds tactics extremely quickly.

What her father did was downright abuse though. The antithesis of everything you should do as a parent, and if they proved anything it was really just making a mockery of the game by showing it's all about training and anyone can get to an extremely high rating.
