Anyways, yeah most people here don't drink but there are still some drinkers, Muslim ones even. I've been seeing a lot more bars lately.

The problem is a lack of personal control, and changing demographics. Alcohol in small amounts is likely beneficial in populations with a higher incidence of low HDL and/or high basal autonomic tone and detrimental in populations with higher risk for ASCVD. The effect of 1-2 drinks per day on a Slav man over 50 years isn't going to be the same as on an Arab, Cree, or Khoisan woman.

It just depends on the person. I’m 18 months sober because I started getting alcohol withdrawal after twenty years of drinking. My choices were to keep drinking everyday to fight off the withdrawal or go stone cold sober. I went to a local hospital and detoxed with benzodiazepine. Honestly felt great when I left the hospital and just stopped drinking. 18 months has flown by and I feel good my bloodwork is great and I sleep soundly every night.
