I agree. It's the same reason all these famous youtubers act how they do. Everyone's trying to have a 'hot take' on something which means trying to be as edgy as you can get away with without turning everyone off, to make yourself stand out from the noise.
A lot of the people considered old boring Republicans have policies that are similar to Trump in many ways, it's not like his policies in 2016 were actually that different, the Trump 2016 platform is basically Bill Clinton's platform from the 90s. It's just the way he spoke was different.
TV had that effect like social media but it was delayed for a while because the silent generation (and earlier) were in charge up until the 80s or so. The boomer generation (the first generation to grow up with the TV always there) took over networks around that time and it's when the short attention span crap took over.
