Atheists be like:
β€œIs God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”

That wasn't said by Epicurus.

>Could my parents have stopped me from making a mess in my room? Then they are not omnipotent.
>Could my parents clean the mess, but they don't want to? Then they just hate me.
>Could my parents clean the mess, and they are willing to clean it themselves? Then why do I have to do anything?
>Could my parent not clean the mess, and are unwilling to clean it themselves? Then why call them parents?

Unironically this is the exact analogy I have used to counter the Epicurean Paradox, though I admit I didn't make the connection to JBP.

How about an iversion?
If there is no Evil, how should Virtue and Good be measured?
If god denies our ability to choose, are we any more than slaves or animals?
If god acts at our behest and robs us of agency, are our actions capable of virtue?
If god were to treat us as cattle, then why call him God?

I hoped this was ironic.

And then there is the moron who uses it unironically. Because billions of innoccents across the ages suffering the most terrible fates ranging from the most devastating tragedies through undescribable torture and the most terrible sicknesses to unrelenting, hopeless slavery, through no fault of their own, is totally on the same level as a mess in a room. Right. An entire universe created in such a way that it rewards ruthlessness, is indifferent to sadism, and punishes deeds that are supposedly moral, is on the level of a mess in a room.

Christians be like:
If anything bad happens it's free will.
If anything good happens it's God's will.

The Demiurge hints at the answer. Evil is a feature, not a bug, of existence.

>God is infinitely merciful.
Has anyone ever said this? I hear about grace often, but mercy? Is there nothing divine that touches the face of mercy?
