i would never recommend steinbeck when you can read a two dozen of his superior contemporaries instead. there are only two reasons to read it, either you've been assigned it for a class, or some stupid bitch you know likes steinbeck and you want to cum in her face.

Of Mice and Men is a far better book, no doubt, but it is a click bait title. Fair warning, if you were looking for a story with mice in it, you will be disappointed, as it isnβt at all about mice, just men.

Unironically. Like, smart autists can...begin the labor of de-judenizing the very languages we speak, but everyone else is better served by abandoning literature altogether. If you must read, limit it to technical manuals, the drier the better. Also this pit of a website, to train critical thinking.

Steinbeck was the foremost commenter on the suffering of the working class, like Okie farmers, during the financial predations and misery of the Great Depression. And he was old school about it. He never harped on race or gender. All gender roles in his works are traditional and reflect white working class values of the time (and pretty much nowadays too, which is a reason liberal coastal snobs think the white working class are "backward).
For those condemning Steinbeck as a socialist, well, you sound like shyster Jews because you're defending predation of white workers and their families and communities.
It's when the white working class began to die across the West, with the changes in the 80s and 90s (neoliberalism, offshoring, mass immigration to replace more expensive white workers etc.), that clown world started to emerge.
