Au contraire. There were a few proto-Jews about like Elliseus of Adrianople but they are not ethnically specific (maybe becoming so) and had no scripture. Take Elliseus. Likely model for Socrates. Knew everything about Cabbalah and Zoroastrianism. Could not read or write and rejected it for philosophical reasons. Had Jewish traits like arguing the hind leg off a donkey but was not a Jew in the modern sense.
Or take whoever it was described today as Jews that were expelled from England perhaps a century earlier, also connected with the phoenically similar soundind Druids and Druze. Many went to Scotland where they blended in and only leave a legacy of Freemasonry. And in England, two centuries of witchcraft trials followed over the contentious issues of abortion and what would be called feminism or lesbianism today. No mention of scriptures.
At no time after were such people ethnically described as Jews. It did not exist until printing technology led to mass distributions of Bibles and the oral folklore of the Talmud was written down and codified. In the 16th Century and later.
