Gold and silver have value because of their physical properties, dumbass. It's a resource that is relatively easy to purify and essentially never degrades in storage, making it a quality physical store of value. If you have a bar of iron, stick it in a horde in the ground, and dig it up 50 years later it will be a pile of dust. Your gold will still be there.
