Why do people care so much about birth rates? Seriously. The global population is at an unprecedented historic high and even if 70% of humanity were wiped out right now we would still have a vastly higher global population than we did 200 years ago.

A lot of it does seem to be "temporarily embarrassed millionaire" syndrome. There's like a fisherian runaway with education and wealth that happens to east asian countries where literally -everyone- expects to be the highly paid salaryman at the Zaibatsu or Chaebol. And they'll either rope, run amok or become a NEET if they can't achieve that, as evidenced by Japan's "lost generation".

The solution is unironically a caste system. East Asian IQ clusters pretty well vertically around 105 so it doesn't really matter that much who's at the top and who's at the bottom. Just fix everyone in a caste system without much space for movement and people will accept their station, and just have kids as they're not jockeying for a higher position.
