The issue is very complex, but you can explain most of the modern issues we face by looking at the economic system through the lens of game theory. The US intentionally changed the system from one of high-trust mutual cooperation and long horizons to a short horizon defect-defect equilibrium. Essentially what this means is that everyone, corporations, people, politicians, are incentivised to maximize profits at the cost of everything else. Trust can be disposed of because I can just move other markets or mitigate punishment across groups. You as an employee are incentivised to fuck over your company, do as little work as possible, work multiple jobs, leave at the first sign of turbulence, likewise your company is incentivised to fuck you over, pay you as little as possible, work you as much as you are willing, and also fuck over the customer, reduce product quality, all justifiable as it increases profits. On a fair game where everyone has equal access to information and transparency the cumulative hits to your reputations would normally cause people to no longer trust you and your expected payoff to such behavior collapses and mutual cooperation wins out, but in reality this is rarely true unless intentionally enforced.

This defect-defect policy comes out of the work of Milton Friedman. And the US intentionally pursued this policy under the economic theory that this would drive competition. The sole purpose of a corporation became to satisfy the stockholder. This made America a lot of money. However, it has completely degraded trust. The average citizen no longer trusts his neighbors, technology has separated us from our own reality, and entirely disconnected us from the world we live in.

In this sense Capitalism is not the issue at all. Low-trust, short horizon, capitalism is. High-trust, long-horizon capitalism built the world that the current defect-defect equilibrium is killing.

For college, the problem is that teachers make too much money for minimal effort (AI will fix this).

Not really. Their high population certainly contributes to the low-trust dynamic as large populations are exceedingly difficult to enforce social repercussions. Hence why China enforces a surveillance state and social credit. It makes it exceedingly difficult to avoid damage to your reputation. But their low-trust status is moreso from their own cultural practices and beliefs.

I would characterize the Western world as the decay of a high-trust system to the low-trust one. We opted for low-trust profit maximizing economics and it has caused massive loss of trust across the board as normal people get continually burned for trusting institutions and corps. I also think that is why boomers are so crazy. They grew up in a high generalized trust society and watched it decay into a low-trust one and they can't seem to update their world views.

The non-living wage for the college student job comes from only working 20ish hours per week, resulting in a lower total at the end of the month.
If they worked that exact same job, at exactly the same hourly compensation, but for 40+ hours a week, they SHOULD always make a "living wage", because the fact that they are working full-time means they AREN'T a highschool kid or young adult working through college. They are a fully fledged full-time working member of society doing a probably nesseccary job, if its not nesseccary it shouldn't exist, and if it is nesseccary it should pay that full time employed working member of society a wage that this worker can live and raise a family on.

Because thats the point, we need population growth or at least constant population for current capitalist system to work, shrinking population is really bad.

And Option 2) is design society in a way that on average women get 2-3 kids. This means the vast majority of people in your society should pair up in male-female pairs, get married, and raise some kiddos.
Raising kiddos is work, especially at the start for the first 5ish years its the equivalent of another full time job. So only one of that male-female pair has to be the breadwinner and bring in enogh money to feed the entire family while the other stays at home.
You don't want just the average guy, or even just the median guy to afford that, you want literally >80% of jobs in society having high enough wages to afford that. Including the cashier at seven-eleven, the amazon-warehouse worker grunt, and the burgerflipper at mcdonalds.
Otherwise you're just gonna be below replacement fertility and have to import the niggers.
