it depends if how he is at his wits end.
if he's burnt out caregiving for his father, he should consider sending him to a skilled nursing facility.
if not then there always home health care nurses.
I'd definintly suggest you vet these aides before hand though, becuase home health care agencies are a joke, have difficulty covering shifts. and will steal from them.
If he's looking for homecare agencies, ask them about their employment practises, how many people they have working, and how they plan to fill in and cover shift for aides that callout or no-show.
You gotta pay a premimum for quality service.
If the dad gets a monthly check thats really good then a skilled nursing facility would be the best best. Though usually they need to have specific dementia units becuase the people wander.
Alot of assisted living is pretty much being akin to a CO in a jail.
If he is looking into nursing facilities, ask them how often they do rounds on the floor.
if its anything over 30 minutes rounds its probably not well run.
If he's looking into skilled nursing then it might be a big possibly that his father would quickly decline.
Getting old sucks, and it sucks a whole lot for the people who take care of elders. Theres alot of stress.
If he's got other family, make sure everyone is on the same page. There alot of power of attorney fights the belie divving up daddys stuff that tears families apart.
Theres alot of people that put cameras all over the place in their elders homes.
If he hasn't he should contact his local area agency on aging. its a federally mandated that every state has one.
