Its a good concept on its own when I came out but I think all these weird trends in the last few years were really acting as training grounds for AI. Imagine AI as a toddler being trained on things to fear such as contextless and uncanny environments that elude explanation. That should be more terrifying to a system relying just on logic. The thing the stood out to me the most was the astroturfed trend on Youtube called Thallassophobia (fear of submerged objects.) You had comments (perhaps bots) saying how scared they are of objects like chairs underwater. This led me to think how much trouble the early AI image generators had with underwater objects.

tl;dr Backrooms content on the internet is accesible to AI observers and acts as a template for training. (I made it up.)

To me it definitely feels like it's Zoomers who grew up slightly too late to have this experience for themselves, and now they're instead told about it on YouTube and it's something marvelous to them.
Yeah sure, games often felt very eerie back int the day. I grew up semi-uncomfortable because games felt so "odd" despite not meaning to. But I'm not gonna stare at pictures of abandoned hallways to exacerbate it. It's a fun memory and there's nothing "deeper" about it. These pictures of empty buildings just leave me cold.
It used to be used and have people inside it, but now it's just devoid of stuff. Uh, sure. Okay. That's "special" I guess?

Zoomers in general are the worst with trying to extract meaning out of things but without really understanding what they're trying to get out of it.

I was in the original backrooms thread way back when. The whole point isn't to be about some bullshit with monsters and a big maze.
Rather, it's meant to resemble these kinda leftover liminal space that were really common a the end of the 90s and early 2000s that blend from one into another, as well as the fake world that was created after WW2 that blossomed after the USSR fell as suburban decay was just starting. The backrooms to me is literally every single random windowless office building, Marriott hotel, rotting Chucky cheese, burnt out factory or facility, and odd mall hallway at closing time that I've had to explore in Mellville Long Island throughout my entire life living on Long Island. Mellville is a pretty fucked up place too, there's a lot of government bs there, gruman did some crap around there, and something fucked up with the Manhattan project happen right off route 110, and that's just all that cones to mind. I believe this probably is more relatable to zillennials than for zoomers who add monsters or anyone born before 1997 who were more developed when the decay really became apparent.

It was a cool concept that teased that childish part of your brain that could not conceptualize the world beyond what was immediately in front of you. Once it became popular, betamales and jews made videogames and youtube videos about it. Same as usual.

Not saying betamales can't make great videogames. But when a betamale makes a great videogame he stops being a betamale and becomes a fucking legend.

She would read her book and I’d just explore. It wasn’t that big but was huge to me as a kid, I went to prison few years back, was pretty much the same feeling.
I know I sound like a nigger, but I’m not. my mom was from Yugoslavia and met my dad while he was stationed there, he pretty much pumped and dump and left, but she still got her green card and raised me.
she ended up dying when I was only 17, so I never had family. It was always just me and her, all of her family were in Eastern Europe and I never knew my dad’s side.
