Smartphones
>Take over the entire world
>Screams for attention at every moment
>Locks you into tiktok, reels, shorts, etc
>Perfect propaganda machines
>Dominated humanity for 20 years

Will they ever go away? Will there be something invented to dethrone the smartphone and spew propaganda into our faces even better? Apple tried with the vision pro but it was a huge fucking flop.

the next leap that would make the smartphone obsolete would necessarily be something that crosses the biological barrier. So something like a neuralink or interface grafted into the palm itself.
Smart glasses are becoming less of a meme year by year, I'm sure there will be a version in the next couple decades that people will actually use.

Anyway, uncle Ted was right as always

Augmented reality is an inevitability. Just a matter of time til the tech is small enough to be convenient.

Agreed. Meta's Orion looks promising. It just costs way too much right now.
If it ever gets mass adoption though, it'll kill the iPhone definitively. People will have to get used to looking crazy while talking into the air in public, like airpods users do.

It will. It is just a communications platform.

I don't think the solution is electronic, nor implantable. Those are short term stopgaps like CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Rays were.

It'll be projected. Everything has some form of detectable emissions. If it is not instantaneous, it will employ electromagnetic fields. If it is instantaneous, it will employ quantum effects. It will be heavily commercialized because the human mind has very few, if any, mental safeguards against direct projection.

I think change lies with the individuals rather than the devices, people need to consciously want to change, otherwise they will be happy doom scrolling and consooming media for many years to come. Phone addiction and social media addiction is such a huge issue that doesn't get addressed the same as gambling addiction, drugs or alcohol addiction. I guess the thing you are losing isn't money or your physical health, but your time and mental health. It's fucking scary. I have recently bought an ereader to replace doomscrolling when I feel the need to pickup my phone, and put an app-blocker on my phone. The first steps and I feel a lot better. Most people are sleep-walking through there lives and don't give a fuck.

Based.
I'm thinking of selling my iPhone to get a dumb phone and a digital camera. I find myself on tiktok way more than I'd like to admit and the blue messages don't really do anything for me.

I want to get some sort of fancy dumb phone, maybe a qwerty one or a gimmicky flip phone. Thinking about it gets me giddy inside, rather than thinking of the next stupid slab that comes out every year.

Same with digital cameras. I'm excited thinking of which model to get, if I want more dials or less, what the specs should be, etc.

The smartphone is quite literally everything in one. Notepad, Camera, Phone, Music player, Movie Theater, Texting, Internet browser, EReader, etc. But in being all of those it also removes the fun from all of it. There's no more ritual to these things when they're given individual attention, just the same compartmentalized app.

Sure, but they'll be necessary steps to make people comfortable with more invasive solutions. Once you prefer an augmented perception thanks to glasses or contacts, you'll weigh the risks differently and getting something implanted won't feel like a big deal anymore.

You're just replacing an all-in-one device with multiple devices. It does not fix the underlying issue, which is a lack of personal discipline. You cannot buy your way out of this problem.

The best solution will not be invasive. If you can directly stimulate the brain or stimulate the nerves that are a hardline to the brain without implantation, you've essentially solved the problem of implants by not needing them and the prospect of obsolescence.

At that point it's just manmade telepathy though. I think I will be obligated to coat my walls in carbonized ferrite paint and ground it to the earth to avoid jeet spam.

Would it be smarter for an alcoholic to live with beer or for him to replace it with water?
Disciplining yourself when the substance is with you every waking moment of your life is near impossible to do

I post on here more bc of smartphones, communities like this wouldn’t be as lively without them
