The government doesn't build houses, the market builds houses. If the government built them, then the government would be forced to give them out, and I sure as fuck am not going to allow my tax money to be spent building free housing for blacks, migrants, and poors meanwhile I have to pay for my rent, utilities, and property and town taxes.

Also, where I live is EXPLODING with housing right now. When I moved here 6 years ago, there was some big development, but around it was mostly farms and open fields, and all of it has been bulldozed to build everything from condo complexes to apartments and houses of all sizes. Now, the question is: Who can actually BUY these? Obviously the developer sees a market for them, otherwise they wouldn't build them, so they see demand and money wanting to move here. But it's also very likely that all of the properties are bought up by BlackRock and shit and you have to lease from them. THAT is the fucking problem, you can't actually own your own house because you need to get a home loan and a mortgage and you can't afford to just put down a million in cash 2 years before the house is even built, meanwhile BlackRock can do exactly that.

China and Japan have been in the "tiny home" game for a while now, because space is at such a premium in both countries that they needed to sell ways of cramming as many people into as small an area as possible, hence why they have pod/capsule apartments and shit.

But China (and others) have been sort of fighting for years and years now to get some sort of ready-to-use factory home that can just be loaded up on a truck and shipped to anyone anywhere and just dropped down and be good to go. It hasn't really hit wide adoption and no one has brought a really worthwhile system to market. Part of the reason it hasn't caught on yet is because almost everywhere you go, unless you're planning on living off-grid, you need to own the land you drop it down on and then have whatever power and water hookups, along with whatever your state mandates (I think California you literally need a poured concrete slab, etc.)
