>Its no secret that Ukraine violated the terms of its neutrality by attempting to join NATO.
The idea that Ukraine would join NATO was never on the table. It's not a realistic prospect even after 2022 and much less before that. Before 2022 it was sci-fi. "muh NATO" is just an excuse given by russia to legitimize their war of conquest, not a real reason for the war.
>Russia would have been insane to allow NATO bases so close to Moscow, including "defensive" nuclear silos.
NATO bases does not mean nukes.
Besides, first strike by nukes is not a real threat to russia, because russia has the nuclear triad. Nuclear triad means that it's irrelevant how close the the enemy nukes are - they will never be launched, because retaliation is 100% guaranteed. Whether Moscow is destroyed a few minutes sooner or later changes nothing about this fact. Learn how MAD actually works and stop swallowing russian propaganda.
russian talking points about Ukraine being a military threat do not make any logical sense - Ukraine is not a military threat to russia. The only way Ukraine is a threat to current russian gov is by showing russian citizens that western orientation over time leads to better quality of life than orientation to russia. This is the real reason for the war.
