While there is quite a lot of things the native Irish have invented many of their accomplishments and writers before the mid-20th century were Anglo-Irish (Protestant landlords basically). Irish nationalists are very selective/schizophrenic about their memory - happily claiming the likes of Oscar Wilde, W.B. Yeats, Francis Rynd (hypodermic needle inventor) as their own but then condemning anything bad attributed to the Protestant ascendancy as being the work of Englishmen. They do also ignore that the Irish (including catholics) played a major role at every level of British colonialism as administrators, settlers, soldiers (especially in India) and merchants.

Some pleasant rural towns and middle class suburbs interspersed with a violent native underclass in council estates and increasing numbers of blacks and browns doing shitty delivery jobs and drug deals.
