Leftism is about defense and facilitation of remaining mediocre. The idea one has to better themselves to actually succeed is alien to them, and they are hostile to that concept. Its the same people who said they should be able to skip the boss fights and just see cutscenes. These people pretend they have to be welcome in absolutely every area of society, in all games, on all boards, in all discussions. Sometimes youre brown, and White people dont want you in the discussion. Sometimes its a place just for White people. I think the problem actually is that Elden Ring isn't much of a step.
It's not really much of an open world game. Really what Elden Ring is, is the same old Soulsborne formula, with big stretches of mostly empty, pretty terrain in between often under-designed souls dungeons (because they spent so much time designing the big empty pretty terrain instead of making the dungeons good). I think ER would have genuinely been better if they didn't try to make it open world.

I went to an EB games in like 2012 or something and bought a shit ton of ps3 games for peanuts, all the best shit people had been trading in because they were spoiled. Red dead, Demon Souls, Dark Souls, Armored Core, GTA4 gay tony/biker expansions in a single disc etc. One of the smarter things ive ever done.

I tend to agree. For me, level design makes or breaks a souls game or soulslike. I did not enjoy Sekiro much or Elden Ring, the former because it was painfully linear, the latter because it felt like very little attention went into complex level design. Dark Souls 1 and Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, on the other hand, had excellent level design. If you only care about the boss fights, then I guess Elden Ring would be more appealing. But even then, you’d probably be annoyed by the scope of the open world.

Yeah, of all their games I think I've enjoyed DS1 and BB the most. DS3 didn't have as strong level design, but I liked that one too, and I thought it was a strong sendoff for the series. I like some of the visuals, and the bosses, and the lore of ER, but in terms of level design I often found myself thinking "this feels rushed for the boss it's leading up to" (Mohg's palace, especially) and the open world, once you get over the wonder of it being very big and very pretty, feels pretty lifeless and barren. I haven't played Fallen Feathers or Black Myth Wukong yet.

The games suck. I can grant that they have a nice art direction, but that’s not the same as nice art or graphics. They’re also very one night. In Elden Ring, once you’ve explored a bit of Limgrave you’ve basically explored the whole game. The entire game has more or less the same vibe and aesthetic. It might switch here and there to a castle or a beach or whatever but the places don’t really vary in feel or vibe at all. And the characters are flat, boring, speak in anti-riddles. The combat is fucking lame. Just because it’s hard doesn’t make it good. The bosses are also lame. They have the same problem as the characters and settings. Only a few are even interesting let alone fun and fascinating. The story is obviously non-existent and the lore borderline incoherent, not to mention the fact that it’s not straightforwardly uncoverable by gameplay but rather has to be discussed in communities with other players all sharing their experiences. The games suck honestly. But if you point any of this out their legion of rabid (weeb always weeb) fans chimp out and insist you just suck. They’re sincerely the most overrated games of all time.

The first time I played Elden Ring and was zipping around on the little horse only to realize that the world was pretty much dead and empty with uninteresting monsters just lumbering around here and there and that the vibe of the setting would never even change from what I had experienced, the music would never get much better or change, and the characters would never be compelling I sincerely could not believe the game was rated as highly as it was. It’s a 5/10 for me AT BEST. Unironically it worse than Zelda which was also not very good.

I started to play it once, didn't really think it was special, so watched some YT videos about it, beginners guides, tips & tricks, etc., to see if I was missing something on why it had so much hype, but it doesn't seem so.
I do like other "hard" titles From Software makes, like Armored Core, etc, but Elden Ring just didn't do it for, even though a single-player fantasy settings is typically more up my alley.

There’s applicable criticisms of them and more of them can be levied against most of the clones. From Soft to their merit does usually make changes between the games that make them feel relatively different, but I don’t really care for most of the clones and I roll my eyes when I hear “Soulslike”.
