Why is the only way to survive in society with money? We need shelter, food, and so on, and for that, we need to earn money through work or investment. How can we live without money?
Why the only scenario I can imagine of a life without money is a monk who lives in the mountains, has his own crops, and spends all day praying?

Define 'money'.
If you mean a generally valuable asset that it easy to transport, such as gold, silver, platinum, etc. yes, it would be very difficult to live without that medium of exchange.
If you mean (((money))) that can be printed from nothing and loaned out at interest, it would be very easy to live without it.
