My theory is that the rare earth minerals are an extra payment for Russia to hack into the Epstein files and delete/modify them remotely. Maybe Trump wants the altercations to look like an outside job so people can't point at him for doing it. And if people ever figured out it was specifically Russia's doing, as opposed to any other unknown outside actor, Trump could say they were hacking in there to hurt Trump rather than help him.

Zelensky and Putin are so far apart on the most fundamental items that no deal is possible.
Putin knows Trump only has 3 years remaining and that no future promises have any value because Washington DC politicians, NATO apparatchniks and EU bobbleheads do not honor treaties, promises or commitments. Any promise that delivers in the future has no value to Putin.
