Permaculture thread
During COVID lockdowns, the government barred you from buying gardening supplies.
The WEF is now campaigning to ban home gardening because they claim it's "too inefficient" and that it "causes climate change".
In parts of Canada, they are issuing fines in the tens of thousands of dollars for just walking through the woods because they claim it'll cause forest fires, so foraging is out.
As always, they restrict your rights while claiming it's for your safety.
They buy up all the farm land and make sure you can't get food any other way than through them because they want you to be their SLAVES.
The mods are on their side and keep deleting these threads despite them being entirely political.

If you want to survive, you need to start growing as broad a variety of foods as possible.

The only way they can convince the youth of today to fight is by starving everyone who doesn't. If you want to resist, the first step is becoming less dependent on the big agricultural megacorps.

Even from just a purely financial perspective, if you have land and you aren't growing some low maintenance perennials, you have a case of the dumb.
A mature hazelnut tree produces enough calories for you to live an entire month. The cost? Less than a bag of hazelnuts.

I saw kiwiberries in the grocery store and germinated a bunch of seeds. they're on year 4 and like 19' tall vines but I haven't cut them back because I wanna see which are male and female first before going crazy
I've had a couple honey berry bushes that I've been spreading around with every pruning and they're slowly taking off where my strawberries failed

I try to do something new every year. This year was less about new plants and more ideas. I've been testing mixing ground up egg shells in some 30% vinegar I've had laying around and using it as a quick calcium boost fertilizer which has worked decently as long as I water it down a bit. The thing about strawberries is that if you don't prune runners you get less yield and they can overcrowd themselves with baby satellite plants from said runners. Also patches tend to "tire out" in about 2 years and don't produce as much. Optimally you have a patch that you use to propagate runners to use to establish new patches that you prune for harvest and tear out old patches when they tire out so you can grow a good "green mulch" for a season then chop and drop to prepare that spot for replanting.

Depends on what stores you go to. If you know where farm stands are, save those. Also, onions don't typically regrow the full bulb; much like carrots, typically only the tops grow. However, if you're willing wait a year like with carrots and parsnips, the second year those tops will produce flower and eventually seeds.

No matter what you buy at the store, always save the seeds if you can be bothered; doesn't matter what they are. Even though most veg at the store blows chunks, it's mainly because the shit is picked way too early, shipped, stored, and then right before it goes out to the markets, many of it gets hit with specific gases to force ripening for the primo coloration to get people to part with their money easier. If you save those seeds, just plant them next year and you'll get the real deal, but vine ripened, so it'll be immeasurably better.

Also, even if the government says don't hike, tell them to go fuck themselves. Forage for Black Raspberries, Wild Grapes, Pin/Bird Cherries, Huckleberries, etc. If you time it right, especially with brambles like Roses and Blackberries/Raspberries, you can simply bring shears with you and take cuttings; those fucking things grow like weeds. If you can find wild Gooseberries/Currants, even better; Currant juice is unbelievably good and it's fucking crazy how the War on Currants/Gooseberies annihilated most of modern NA's population from ever getting to have them.

Forgot to add, you don't need to cut the pineapple top off; you can just twist the crown and then pull the bottom leaves off to expose the roots. Pineapple crowns are assholes like Avocado seeds where you can't really get them directly wet, they just need to be near water enough to force the root propagation, so you have to dangle them in a glass. You also have to time it correctly because the crowns will be dead by the time the pineapple itself is ripe.

If you really want to get into it, look into shelving, good grow lights, and heat mats. They'll obviously help for sowing most regular seeds like peppers & tomatoes, but they're critical for tropical shit, like citruses or cacti or oddball stuff like sapote. Most tropical seeds are recalcitrant, which means you gotta get them in the ground ASAP, because once they start drying, they die, rather than go dormant. Even if it's effort, any fruit tree can be made into a dwarf tree/bonsai with the proper effort and will fruit. That way you can have indoor oranges and other neato stuff.

Also, grow your own sugarcane. You'll never get a better version of sugar out there, and the shit never stops once you get it going.

the problem is it's basically not cold enough in winter where we have enough humidity in summer
and not humid enough in summer where we do have cold enough winters, so olives start growing about central california usa, THAT place they do like, mostly the same goes for grapes, but grapes don't need real cold winters and like DRY summers, so we do have some vineyards

that was a fire restriction

>A mature hazelnut tree produces enough calories for you to live an entire month. The cost? Less than a bag of hazelnuts.
do you have any idea how long it take for trees to produce their first nuts?
hazelnut will be around 5 years, almonds sometimes shorter sometimes longer, pistachio maybe 7 or so, walnuts can be 10 years or more.
lots of other crops to consider

it's just two rain barrels on a pedestal so it will have a bit of pressure, of course if you were smareterrer, you'd design your house with like 3 floors, inside orchard, collect all that rain in the second floor, in a big room, use that water for everything downstairs, add a cistern to save overflow

> if the government says don't hike
This is precisely why people should ostracize and shun cops.
Government overreach wouldn’t happen if it wasn’t for the parasites with the character of traitors that call themselves β€œlaw enforcement”. There isn’t a major problem facing western countries today that hasn’t been made worse because β€œlaw enforcement” too often acts in direct opposition of what is best for the majority of people.
Cops are POS
