I agree. I think each state should be run like a laboratory with minimal interference from the federal government other than facilitating trade and mediating disputes between states. Major international trade hubs in the United States (ports, int’l air terminals, etc) should likely be federalized, both as a source of income and check against individual states holding international trade hostage.
There should be an application process for admittance to other states. There should be no rule outlawing interstate compacts that allow “reciprocal” citizenship, in which the moving procesd is expedited and does not test for need or aptitudes.
