How do those shutters work? They seem to be too narrow for the windows. I mean maybe they're folded like an accordeon, but dividing the width of the windows by the width of a single fold doesn't seem to result in an integer, there'd either be a gap or an overlap.

I'm sure that for all the caveats an average Riga suburb is nicer than that of SPB these days (there's a growing number of decent settlements for the middle class there but they've a long way to go), and your house sounds like a great purchase, especially for a native Latvian; just seemed like an odd flex, dunno where that came from.
