I disagree. If there is one thing Trump hates is engaging in stuff and nothing happens, because his base is going to react cynically.

So something needs to come from the meeting such as:
- agreement to sign a cease fire at frozen current frontlines
- agreement to a 3 leader meeting quickly, Zelensky, Putin, Trump
- roadmap for next weeks

Putin has every incentive to agree to all these, as he would not give anything up and avoid secondary sanctions.

Because since the end of the Cold War the power relations between the US and Europe has been tenuous, with the EU more and more asserting itself as an equal power - or even a rival power - rather than a vassal. Meanwhile Russia has been trying to reassert itself as a similar equal/rival power, like the Soviet Union was, once again. They are meeting because:
1. Trump needs attention drawn from Epstein list
2. They will talk about nuclear treaty because it is expiring in a few months.
3. Trump wants to settle more mineral deals and trade with Russia.
As for Ukraine, it is just annual "negotiations" which sole goal is to push to blame back to Ukraine/EU, which will then be pushed back to Russia a few months after with Trump changing his attitude and becoming "very very angry" with Russia.
