Lived in Shenzhen for close to 10 years. I loved it, honestly.
It really does feel like living in a (dirty in the corner) cyberpunk future, minus the crime.
Food is amazing, too. Fruits especially.
The city is also much more green that you would expect. There's tons of parks and you can hike in nature in the mountains right out of the city.

It's essentially Las Vegas minus all of the degeneracy, plus half of the city not being casino related, but instead Portuguese architecture and old colonial buildings.

The thing is they aren't "Triads" they are called "Tongs" or community organizations. You aren't meant to "see" them, if you don't see them, you are doing fine, the truth is, you don't want to get involved with the Tongs at all. They are the ones that operate the illegal gambling dens and whore houses.

I know full well of the Sun Yee On and 14K in Hong Kong. One of the very few things that Sleeping Dogs got remotely right (if extremely and heavily exaggerated) about the city.

All of the places I been to in Macau were legal and corporate owned. And I didn't enter any gambling den in Hong Kong. We didn't go to gamble, more to sight see, since we were more interested in the Portuguese architecture and old colonial buildings and landmarks in Macau.
Anonymous (ID: ymYBt2YC) Finland No.513113762 >>513113944

Yeah, that makes sense. Well anyway, Triads aren't at all like the Yakuza with a public image either or people that have easy and accessible public offices you can just easily walk into, they are a secret organization more like the Masons, if you want to link up with a Triad well, you would want to find a proper traditional Kung Fu type of School with a certain pedigree and heritage and a chinese Sifu, those people are usually linked up with Triads.

I would rather much stay away from criminals all together. When my Hong Kong fiancée was here and I showed her Sleeping Dogs, she hated it not only due to how it was Hong Kong in name only (didn't even remotely resemble the city), but also hated all of the violence and crime in it, and was crying when she was reminded of hearing news stories about criminal syndicates there similar to those doing similar crimes. Didn't stop me from 100%ing it a second time.

Based lol. Its more Hong Kong in the sort of Hong Kong movie sense and police drama than reality for sure. Its funny how the Yakuza aren't seen like that by the Japanese at all with games like Yakuza in comparison. Your fiancée was a bit over emotional though. Yeah, linking up with a crime organization doesn't mean you have to run around with them or nothing, just knowing they are there and shit, its better actually to be on their good side in general because they can look after your back if someone tries to pull dirt on you around the hood. Think it like that instead of getting involved with them.

I also been to Taipei. It looks and feels like an American city. Even to the point where there's a baseball autographed by Babe Ruth on the top of Taipei 101 (she didn't know who he was, but I wanted that baseball, but I have jack shit for money, I am not a thief, and it wasn't for sale anyway).

But then again, Taipei has everyone throwing toilet paper in small bins. Where restrooms smell like absolute shit, where you enjoy the sights of other people's discarded toilet paper right in front of you.

First of all, no social credits in Hong Kong. Zero.

Secondly, everything is paid using an Octopus Card, which is a specialized debit card. Used for the MTR station, but expanded to everything, including the one million 7Elevens and Circle Ks there.

Third, endless malls. You walk through a mall to go to the other side of a building and walk into another mall. Even the metro stations are malls. All free enterprise.

The museums are also free, since they're all public.
