I used to think of some areas that hated cops and thought what complete shitholes they must be not wanting the best for cops who are there to help them. But of course reality is when you know more is that the copson the whole are just there to enforce government policy. sure if you never do anything, keep subdued you may well never run into a cop or see them as a problem. They are always going to be there waiting tho, that slight misstep in their eyes and they will come down on you like a ton of bricks. As for the criminals, they are too much work and are only another stat to fill in - they might as well get the easy one for someone doing something so petty it is beyond embarrassing it is pursued by them. And of course the media work hand in hand with the police to enforce it all.

I'm going to defend this slightly. The Peelite policing model in the UK is not that of lesser foreign countries and their remit extends beyond legal/illegal. Police in the UK go for low hanging fruit and easy convictions. Serious crimes are a fucking headache with loads of paperwork so they try to go after minor infringements that have less workload.
