I don't think he's deliberately trying to provide a limited hangout. There are people who fancy themselves as people who have deep insight but end up falling for things like the Russiagate hoax. And because they believe things like that that are wrong, as hard as they try they'll never get things right and it will affect their views on other things since a lot of things in history are related.
