As I 5'8.5" guy, is it pretty much over for me at this point? In the past, women wanted to marry. That was their goal, they grew up understanding that the goal was to get married and build a life and family for themselves. And at the same time, most people did not travel widely, and the vast majority stayed in the same town they grew up in because they were too busy working and going to school to leave. So what this meant is that for both the average boy and the average girl, they only had exposure to other average people and so the most handsome or prettiest person they knew was someone who likely looked a lot like everyone else around them.

The internet, unfortunately, changed all of this because people are now able to see the top 1% of attractive people from all over the world all the time, and it massively skews your perceptions. If you see 100,000 supermodels every day, you start considering that to be "average" and the actual average person around you to be way below-average. Add to that the ability to satisfy dopamine reactions via online engagement, and you have women able to get the kind of dopamine spikes from just posting a bikini picture on Instagram as they used to only be able to find doing social activities interacting with other average people, and via courtship and closeness with the opposite sex.

It has become a lot like the porn problem: Why seek out sex if you can just masturbate easily, to anything, and with anything, thus burning yourself out or inuring yourself to sensation, and making actually enjoying another person not a thing you're capable of?
