Since this is the current Balkan thread, I will confess here.
Last year I spent 5 months in an African country. Was originally supposed to stay 3 months, but there were complications.
When I was there, I started missing Croatia 2-3 weeks in. Being away from it, I developed romanticised ideas of it, I was looking forward to coming home, telling all of my crazy experiences to local people from my town, and so on.
But when I came home, no one really gave a fuck that I am back, there wasn't some nice warm welcome, no one ever asks any questions, if I start telling my stories I don't make it very far because literally no one gives a fuck.
Croats would rather talk about football or complain about what happened at their work yesterday, then hear about something no one in my little nigger town ever experienced.

They literally do, but Serbia/Serbs will never be able to pay their workers more than western Europe, and since this country is colonized by the EU the prices are just like in the EU.
Also, everything is getting centralized to Belgrade and Novi Sad/Vojvodina while the infrastructure cannot handle it.
The problem of these small shitholes is that only 1-2 cities is liveable.
Simply put, there's no way out of this downwards trend. Especially if you've got the people in charge Serbia has.
