When I had $8,000 from being laid off my job, I did this. I travelled cross country and stayed in different hotels by myself. I went all over. East Coast to West Coast. Almost 2 months of being on the road and going to hotels. I think I rented maybe 14-15 rooms altogether. La Quinta, Quality Inn, Red Roof, all the major brands, up to and including Marriots. Every room, I tried out the coffee. Quality Inn has the best coffee by far and it's not even close. Some coffees taste like soap.

It was one of the best times of my life. Total freedom. I just drove around. I visited like 35 states and 5 national parks. The hotel solo life is criminally underrated. You don't need friends.

It's actually pretty easy if you're over 30. If you throw in the pandemic, 3-4 relationship breakups, career, illness, it's actually really easy.

I have friends I can phone up but they live far away. I have a brother but he lives far away. I have an aunt but she lives overseas.

Both parents are dead. I have a gf but she has a lot of health issues so we don't get out much.

My two hobbies (making music snd painting toy soldiers) attract the most broken, childish, psycho motherfuckers you could ever wish to meet. About 90% of my interactions with other musicians and wargamers I am polite, but their tism is too great.

In all most friendships I have had have been really transactional or I have been disrespected in such a way that I don't want to be sround those people. Sensing my utility is over I note they act the same.

I'm a good cook, reasonably funny, not very ideological, I'm clean, my house is nice, we are well read and not caught up in trends.

To be honest I feel like this psrt of my life I should do something for myself instead of trying to help others every second of the day. I'm too self sacrificing and I feel the need to assert some self respect.
