The White House’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs has approved a proposed change to the way United States Citizenship and Immigration Services handles H-1B visas, according to a report. The new rule would prioritize H-1B applicants based on earnings rather than the existing random lottery system.

The wage based system means that even entry-level FAANG engineers will not qualify for H1B let alone lndians who get paid $65k. Only top Chinese AI engineers at OpenAI and xAI will get selected first and the remaining 30-50k slots will go to directors and principal engineers at FAANG companies. There will be no engineer below Staff level that will make the cut.
