chongqing has 35 million people and is a chinese municipality with the city of Chongqing and 80% of the land of the municipality is rural villages and small towns. there is massive disparity in income between the 10-15 million who live in the city and the 20-25 million who live in small towns and villages and the low tier cities outside of Chongqing City.
most people in the municipality are living on a few thousand USD per year. it isn't a like for like comparison. if the point is chongqing is fake, then that is a fair point. it is 3 or 4 million people living a middle class lifestyle with a small super rich population and the vast majority are working class workers.
but shiny lights are what people want to see.
