All this really says to me is "we don't understand Russian code enough to have this exist as an exploit moving forward regardless of it being foundational."

I don't, I'd rather use Windows, the popular platform used by 99.999% of the world and built by a soulless corporation than spending a few weeks configuring your obscure nerd software made by trannies.

I think that there is some shit recently where his butthurt over Russia meant that he's not rejecting contributions from Russian programmers for valid reasons and got a bit political.

But Linus cucked at least 6 years ago. The "code of conduct" and "contributor covenant" shit meant non-programmers pretended to be offended by everyday phrases like "white list" or "sanity check" - terms that have specific meanings in the industry and the politically correct replacement words offer multiple suggestions or worse, between projects they'll say replace "sanity" with "confidence" but in another project some retard will have suggested another word to use instead.

All this faggotry comes about because of the corporate sponsorships. The same corporations that have DEI hires that aren't capable of doing actual work and so go looking for reasons to justify their existence. Which all it does is piss off productive people and make them less productive.

Kubuntu is another option. My dad has been using that for like 10 years now. He was on windows because he used a lot of old software but I set up XP in a VM (with no internet and file sharing) and he's been on that setup for many years. The only time he bugged me was when the version of his LTS distro was end of life and he was worried about upgrading. But the second time he had to do that (last year) he did it himself.

There is this myth still out there that the setup is complex. It's only as complex as you want it to be. For most normies, some kind of Ubuntu distro is fine to get started and if they want to try different setups, great, if not then at least they don't have a Pajeet OS.
