No. Legally, a war starts by either a declaration of war, or a direct attack. Whichever happens first. Provocations can justify starting a war, but don't start a war on their own.

However, if you read the nuremberg protocols and use your head, there's still plenty of reason to assume that hitler didn't start the war. The whole "SS men, wearing polish uniforms and speaking fluent polish attacked a German radio stations just minutes before Poles attacked the German border in 22 places, then executed one of their own for no reason" story has plenty of holes in it, even more so when you read neutral reports from a few days later (Swiss and American newspapers, mostly) and realize that the "executed SS man wearing polish uniform" was actually a Polish nationalist paramilitary from a town nearby. And it gets even more interesting when you realize that Poland attacked both Rusia and Czechoslovakia with the same methods in 1938, and that the one witness who (allegedly) planned the whole operation for the SS was dishonorably discharged a few months later. Not exactly how you treat someone who could easily blackmail you, right?

Germany as a country was sacrificed to stop the spread of communism and that’s all WW2 ever was.
