Yes. Smartphone social media essentially ruined local social hierarchies. I was well liked growing up because I can be really funny in person. If I went to high school during smartphones I would have been nobody because I can't engage with the fake bullshit/humiliation that comes with trying to be liked online.

When I graduated facebook had recently become mega popular, and people started doing "rate for rate" where they would post public looks ratings of each other (where they obviously always lied and were overly nice) in order to get attention. This alone made me extremely uncomfortable, and I didnt understand why people would humiliated themselves by acting that desperate. If only I'd know that wasn't even the tip of the iceberg.
