Let's be honest, the guns of today are NOTHING like the guns they had when the Second Amendment was written. Muskets were slow, inaccurate, and not that powerful. A modern assault rifle is power and can fire dozens of rounds in seconds.

There is absolutely no way that the founding fathers would have been alright with average people owning assault rifles. Muskets, yes, but assault rifles? I don't think so. But even if they did, the founding fathers also owned slaves and kept women from voting. Are they really the kind of role models we need to be looking up to in 2019?

It won't be easy to ban and confiscate assault rifles but we need to at least try instead of being the generation that could have done something but was too afraid of the NRA to try

Our early Navy was supplemented heavily by independent privateers issued letters of marque by the Continental Congress. By their standards grenade launchers and howitzers should be legal.

That's true. Muskets were terribly inhumane weapons of war. A ball would go right through two people and end up buried in the third. You wanted to be the first guy, he had the highest chance of survival. The last guy was almost certain to get a terrible infection and die of sepsis or gangrene. They didn't design ammunition to mushroom on contact and stop inside of the intended target. And like you said, they were much less accurate, so the chances of hitting someone or something you didn't intend to kill were much, much higher. The founding fathers would have drooled over modern rifles and cartridge ammunition, not just for its ability to quickly and accurately kill, but it's ability to accurately wound and overall to save lives. Wars has much higher casualties in the past relative to their populations whereas war now, enabled by modern rifles and ammunition, is highly specialized with little excuse for civilian casualties. They would much rather have American citizens owning such intentional and humane weapons than muskets. The founding fathers were also correct about women and niggers and they're the exact kind of role models we needed in 2019 and in 2025. Adhering to the Constitution the way it was written is the best thing America could do. I think if you really want to confiscate assault rifles, you should put your money where your mouth is and go try it yourself, instead of waiting for the government to show up with assault rifles to do it for you. See how that goes for you. Unfortunately, for bootlickers anyway, the American People would absolutely win in an assyentric war against the federal government.
