You could be agnostic and not give a shit either way, if some deity wants to talk to you they can without some book written by ancient Judean vagrants.

tfw a pre-canned argument for this exact situation:

God is unverifiable but also unfalsifiable, meaning you can believe in practically any God or gods or no gods at all without it becoming delusional. A Schrodinger's Cat belief.

In any situation where we have a Schrodinger's Cat belief we need to ask where the advantage lies. This is something you should be doing for all beliefs.

God or no God? Well, no God provides no advantages but believing in God opens up all kinds of doors.
Omnipotent or limited? Again, we want maximum advantages so we want maximum power to draw on.
Omniscient or ignorant? Same deal, what good is a God if he doesn't know you exist or isn't always right?
Benevolent, uncaring, or malevolent? Well, an uncaring God is the same as an absent God and a malevolent one is a severe disadvantage, so belief in a benevolent God is more advantageous.
Present or absent? We want one who's present in the observable universe, God should have had a direct impact on reality which would be it's will manifested.
Easy or hard? Obviously, all things being equal, it's more advantageous to follow the God with the easiest rules.

All that to say, Jesus Christ and Christianity are the most advantageous religious system by far. I'm not saying join a denomination or lose your personality or anything like that. The only thing you have to do for it start working is be born again of the spirit. I did it and I don't do anything different than an atheist but have faith.

Eat at the last supper tonight. Get the hummus. Have a flagon of His blood at 4am in a mostly empty cathedral. Go to a mass you've never been to. Listen to a protestant you think may have nothing in common with you. Order the Lord rare. Eat His flesh. Make a confession. Make two. Be open to a denomination where you may not understand or agree with the sinner next to you, but have a wafer with them anyways. Pray slowly. Tip your priest. Check in on the pagans. Check in on your eternal soul. Enjoy salvation.

If your father loves you, you don't need a pretend father substitute.
