BTW, the reason we hate such "policies" is because they never apply to the third-world shitholes that are creating the problems. Nineteen of the world's twenty filthiest rivers are in Asia and Africa. Shitholes like India and the Philippines simply dump all their trash straight on the ground when they can't find a convenient waterway to throw it into. China keeps building coal-fired energy plants while the West is being told to "deindustrialize".

Canada emits 40% more CO2 per capita than the U.S. does, but you'd never know that from the news media that keeps pretending that Americans are the problem. Not even getting into how Victoria BC refused to fix its sewage system for decades and simply dumped their shitwater straight into the ocean, where it drifted into U.S. waters and caused problems for American waterfronts. Same with Mexico, both for dumping trash into the water and for dumping sewage into water.

Pollution/littering will never be solved because everyone likes to think their side is the clean one, but in reality everyone and everything is dirty in their own ways.

In a weird way, environmental policy can be easily gauged by how simple it is. Good examples include clean air and clean water acts. They clearly define and measure a problem and have broad language that covers most if not all bases.

This is basically the answer OP. Every single policy you've ever heard proposed would address maybe 1/1000th of a % of the problem. The only solution to climate change at all is for America to build nuclear power plants in China. Neither country wants this, because nuclear costs billions and Americans aren't going to just give that to China. And China doesn't want this because they know full well the concrete is actually just paper mache filled with mud, and if you build a reactor failsafe out of that they're all going to die horribly.

Nobody can genuinely propose the only real solution. So politicians instead decide to answer the ignorant leftist demand to "do something- literally anything!" by making beef and cars more inaccessible to the lower class. This does literally nothing to stop climate change, but it does make poor people's life profoundly more miserable.

Developing countries have lower emissions per capita and a lot of their emissions and plastic pollution are because manufacturing and waste disposal moved to the third world. Our rubbish got dumped on them, then they burned some and dumped the rest. I'm not saying they don't also dump their own waste but they produce less waste per person because they consume less because they're poor. Countries like the UK and Norway extract fossil fuels then sell it abroad so it doesn't count against their net zero targets.

See, the Population of Africa used to be stable.
