I personally know 2 billionaires (and a few 9 fig net worth individuals). The two billionaires are worth $8B (from real estate development) and $3B (from recycling) respectively. Both are self made and neither inherited more than a million dollars.

The one thing they have in common is that they work insanely long hours. 80 hour weeks are a given. They are workaholics that mainly care about their businesses. The real estate guy is kind of an asshole, but the recycling guy is very kind. Neither of them are bad people, but the recycling guy is one of the nicest, hardest working, and most gracious people I have ever met. I was connected to him through a friend (I have a startup that works on recycling technology), and had no idea he was as wealthy as he is based on his humble appearance and demeanor.

A lot of billionaires are evil scumbags who have megalomaniac fantasies, but the two I personally know dont really fit that mold.
