The Trump administration decided to start charging import duties on all packages under $800 in value at the end of the month.
The US doesn’t have the infrastructure to do this. It was originally supposed to happen in 2027.
But somebody decided to end the de minimis exemption just because. So DHL is simply ending shipments to the US.
Keep pretending these people are competent or are looking out for your interests or are destroying the country in a way that’s actually good.

We did the same. There was doom and gloom about how charging taxes on the millions of packages under 35$ in value would absolutely choke the postal services but it was only an issue for some six months. They also implemented a system where the stores on eBay/in China directly charge the taxes so it passes straight through. Virtually no difference now.

This is great. Now my loaded suitcases will not only yield me enough resale profit to pay for my round-trip air fare, I'll likely have enough profit left over to do a few days of layover and travel around in Japan on the way back.

Imports under the de minimis threshold were absolutely still cleared through CBP, through the Entry 86 pilot program of Section 321. You still needed invoices to declare value, shipments PGA flagged (participating government agencies) were still restricted, and parcels were routinely held for audit and inspection

It’s been known for a year that DHL would be suspending US operations. Everything previously cleared via T86 will now be via ECCF (express consignment courier facility). There will be hiccups but the industry has become incredibly flexible and responsive to these changes
