different to rugby ie it's free flowing not limited to downs etc.

People don't move to western Tasmania, they end up there. Whether its because you are a miner that has been kicked off site everywhere on the mainland, are some hippy alternative type whose whole lifestyle goes against the grain, or your parents are brother and sister, there has something seriously wrong going on in your life to end up there.

Civilised people make it to Hobart or Launceston, realise Tasmania is shit and flee back to mainland Australia as soon as possible.

Yeah that about sums up rugby union. They pack into a scrum and start trying to punch each other and stomp on anyone that falls over. Rugby League is just people sprinting into each other really hard. Australian Rules Football is quite different to these two. It's like tall lanky dudes trying to kick a ball through some posts in between sprinting around and sometimes they jump on each others backs to get higher to catch the ball.

It was bought with some redundancy money a company paid out shortly after WWII ended
My parents live in a victorian house with a basement and three floors that they bought in 2001 for like Β£40,000
Meanwhile a shitty two bedroom house in a soulless newbuild suburb with barely any garden and definitely no arable land as the dirt is filled with rocks and buried hardcore waste wants a Β£20,000 downpayment just to get a mortage for it

I meant you're better off building your own house on an empty plot, than trying to fix a falling apart cardboard shack. That property has negative value, because it's cheaper to start off with nothing, than with a dangerous unliveable dumpster with near zero land value.

I was disagreeing with OP's idea that buying property like that is a viable way of becoming a self-sufficient ruralite.

One major issue with housing in Australia is that you have to pay top-dollar to live around decent people. You can live in the outer suburbs but you'll have recent immigrants and the layer of entrenched povery that makes life worse for everyone unfortunate to be around them.

But regional australians make outer suburbs Australia look like Japan. I have family that live in regional australia and I have heard enough to know that you should avoid being anywhere near them.
