Is it even possible for such countries as Baltics to have a stable long term economic model without the heavy involvement of their largest neighbor? Naturally they were founded as logistics hubs for German merchants with local servants to conduct Russian trade, which was the best possible idea for those place to become prosperous. Later, after series of revolutions germans were expelled and the local population were given the control. Since then they had been always used in big Empires affairs like a cheap way to annoy your political counterpart. Even if you look at Baltics economy now, still the best business of the upper class there is smuggling sanctioned goods to Russia. Despite that their politicians are trying to build as much legal obstacles to such natural business as possible. Does it make you think that given control to the local population there was a mistake, and they simply never had any experience or independent realistic vision how to develop their places?
