I think you underestimate how many Necrons are still asleep. There are huge tombs all over the galaxy, and only a small percentage has been reactivated yet. Their biggest problem is infighting and damage from the long suspension, otherwise they'd clear up most other factions with ease. Tyranids are a whole other matter though, especially if you consider the swarmfleets coming in from outside the known galaxy.

I don't like Szarekh, but he didn't return because he was afraid of the Tyranids per se, but because reverting biotransferrence would require some biomass left to transfer into, and the Tyranids eating it all up would make that impossible.
I just recently read that short story again, and he pretty much used the BAs for his own gain, by getting their help against the invading Tyranid force and having them kill each other.

Yes it is. He literally meet the hive mind southside the galaxy and fucked back faster the a black guy finding out his child won the lottery. Also planets devoured by the Tyranids can still come back to life as stated by Belisarius in his book. Only the surface was barren but the inside was still flourishing with life. With trazyns collection and necron technology they could just wait for the nids to eat everything up and just repopulate everything once they are gone.
