And the better and more legitimate his image is and the more he looks like "one of the people/soldiers", the more likely he is to steal millions of dollars from the US and EU foreign aid for his dildo and cs go skins collection.

Because he takes theatre seriously, and political theatre requires costumes. He dresses like that to play a role. If he's seen in a suit, people will think Ukraine is winning and they'll stop giving them money. He says he dresses like that to show his people and the world that he's fighting for them, but I imagine his efforts are about as honest as his costumes. As above, so below; he pretends for the cameras to play a game on the world stage.
