In North America the natives did sort of well and were feared for a long time. They never drank. In central America the natives drank booze and also evidently human flesh and blood until Spain stopped sacrifices.
Spain really wanted slaves in the Americas and the women didn't resist much. Lots of North American settlers hated the idea of slavery, and also wanted to avoid war with natives while it was still the colonies.

That isn't what the British did, though. They made treaties, made slaves, and made mercenaries out of surrounding tribes. They allied with the friendlies to get the hostiles.
