47 Jews stuck in Bosnia after their Israeli passports fell in to trash
ISRAELI tourists who stayed at the Hills Hotel in Sarajevo had their passports thrown in a trash can, forcing them to stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina for at least another week until the Israeli Foreign Ministry issues them new documents.
A total of 47 Israeli tourists have been stranded in Bosnia and Herzegovina after their passports fell into a trash can at the hotel reception. The hotel said the passports were not thrown in the trash and released a surveillance camera footage showing the bag containing the passports falling into a trash can at the hotel reception area (second 8 of the video).
"Therefore, the passports were not 'thrown away', nor was there any intention to harm the guests. The entire incident was the result of an unfortunate coincidence, not a deliberate or malicious act. We would like to emphasize that the case was immediately reported to the relevant authorities and that all measures were taken to resolve the situation as quickly as possible," the hotel said.
Among the tourists whose documents were thrown away are citizens of other countries.
The group was supposed to return to Israel on Saturday, but were unable to board the flight and are forced to stay in a hotel until a replacement can be found.
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassy in Belgrade are trying to resolve their problem.
