We only have enemies in the region because israel decided to plop down in the region. From the advent of the discovery of hydrocarbons to be exploited in that region, we were doing business just fine with the arabs/persioans. We would have continued doing so.

Israel is useless an as ally. The Iraqi wars proved that. Israel is not necessary for the United States to maintain its commanding military presence in the Middle East. Other nations in the area host American bases. These other nations provide better strategic locations that Israel can and do some for considerably less money and hassle as well.

I saw someone put forth an interesting hypothesis yesterday that perhaps one of the main reasons the US and Europe support Israel (obviously there are highly compromised individuals in government, especially in America) is actually because they worry that if they were to just cut Israel loose they'd go full berserker mode like Imperial Japan and might even attack Europe
