What SSRI were you on and how long have you been off it?

fun fact, there is a rare genetic mutation where people's synaptic serotonin levels are abnormally elevated due to an altered transporter protein. Basically it's like they're on SSRIs from birth. These people are disproportionately incarcerated. In europe they did a study on murderers in prison and found that a majority of them have the mutation. Abnormally high levels of serotonin cause people to behave impulsively without regard for the consequences of their actions. The mutation persists because impulsive people are often successful and survive well. SSRIs are just pharma cashing in on that phenomenon. It's also why there's a black box warning for suicide risk. If you already want to kill yourself and you go on SSRIs, the increased impulsivity makes a certain number of people just go ahead and do it.

I've been thinking about taking medication for depression for a long time because I drink too much alcohol and every now and then I feel like doing a Hindu flip on the tracks.

Never took SSRIs but years ago in college i would do MDMA like every other day for a few weeks. When I stopped, I had 'brain zaps' for months. Shot was scary especially when driving but it went away eventually. During this time I would also fall asleep within 5min and have night terrors, when normally it takes like 30+ min

idk man I had constant anxiety attacks anytime I did anything that wasn't hiding in my room, I used to have a constant hand tremor even in no stress situation and when I would be in any kind of more elevated levels of stress my entire body would shake and hands would shake and I would not be able to even move my hands, speak or think and would nearly faint. I’m on SSRIs and I don’t get the big fuss. They help prevent me from getting extreme anxiety but otherwise I don’t feel that different. It definitely does not have a dramatic effect like something like adderall (which I also take but feels much more dangerous and addictive).

Anyways everyone should try and be sober and medicine free but that’s not possible for all of us. If you have adverse reactions to psych drugs quit taking them. Not every drug is for everybody and it’s not that scientific unfortunately. It can take some trial and error and that’s the shitty part for most.

I'm sorry that you had to go through this. I was in a very similar situation. Luckily, I was able to climb out of it by going to the gym 4x a week and I found a really good place that does Ketamine treatments about an hour from me. Those two have completely turned me around. Within less than a month of Ketamine treatment, it seemed like I was magically healed. One major caveat is that I had to see my individual therapist within 1-3 days to 'lock-in' or 'integrate' the benefits of the treatment. One time, I didn't see the therapist for almost 10 days after treatment and it wasn't great. I'm told that, at some point, people eventually start to space out their infusions to the point where they don't need maintenance anymore. I can see that happening for me, but I'm only (almost) 3 months in. I did speak with someone who is much further along than I am and they commented that they rarely need maintenance now and a lot of things his therapist has been telling him for years has seemed to magically snap in for him.

SSRIs are not even a treatment. More and more studies are coming out proving that the efficacy as a treatment is almost all placebo, but doctors knew this, they use it as a diagnostic tool to help them figure out which course of treatment they should start with in 8 to 12 weeks.
And in the meantime you're playing blindfolded darts with your brain and if you bring up that the changes are permanent they fucking gaslight you and say "oh you can stop taking them at any time" like yea man cool but uh permanent changes are still permanent so like huh?

That's where you ultimately get screwed up. These mongoloid doctors don't know some people need to do really long tapers over a year or two using liquid depending on how long they were on it. On survivingantidepressants.org a lot of people start seeing progress around the 2yr mark. Hang in there anon.

Have a relative that got on SSRIs, kid is basically high all the time and has become an impulsive mess incapable of reason. She's already showing accelerated cognitive decline and dementia at 17. Really explains a lot when I read that most lefties are on these pills.
