>ukraine settlement seems to be on the table with Russia taking part of the country while nato protects the rest
>i.e. the only possible negotiated settlement which anyone could have predicted three years ago
>/uhg/ and /chug/ are now arguing about who “won” as the war approaches its obvious conclusion
>ziggers in Berlin apartments seething at the idea of only a partial Russian victory
>New York Times is saying Trump has fully gone to Putin’s side now despite having supposedly gotten the guy to agree to nato troops in Ukraine, something he’s always insisted was unacceptable
I’m starting to think everyone following this war is a midwit

Zelensky stated he isn't going to give up any territory recently, so this war will probably go on a few more years at most till no Ukrainians able to fight are left. Peace talks right now are a nothing burger, maybe Trump made backroom deal with Putin that the public doesn't know about but I doubt it.

He says that, but he can’t be totally ignorant of reality. If the guy honestly expects to take land back at this point then he’s delusional. The sticking point obviously is the areas that Russia “annexed” and doesn’t control, but that’s just haggling over price, you can always find a way to save face in situations like that

Legit what's stopping Russia from recouperating and "liberating" Odessa in a few years time though?
Anonymous (ID: S4AY63EO) United States No.513316393
Odessa is on the wrong side of the Dnieper, and was never really on the table in this war. These sorts of hardliners were always going to be disappointed.

Ukraine being independent is a win, doesn't matter how much or little russia gets, for russia anything but complete Ukraine's annexation is a defeat. So yes, Ukraine is winning and russia is losing, doesn't matter how many villages or fields they take over.

Finland in NATO is not a big issue for Russia, while Ukraine being in NATO is a dagger to its throat. It's pretty easy to understand why, all you need to do is look at the map.

they "need" the whole thing, anything less than that is a waste of hundreds of thousands of lives, billions of dollars and 3.5 years

That's the problem: he can't. Ukrainian nationalists are completely deranged and zealous, and will want his blood if he gives up land. He knows this, so he will try to postpone and give false hope as long as possible.

Yeah I think if NATO and Ukraine want protection, Russia has to get Odessa and the rest of the Russian parts of Ukraine. Poland is really missing out on an amazing opportunity to take the rest

It's the great european plain issue, like always - when was the last time there was a catastrophic invasion of Russia via Finland? Because someone comes through Ukraine or Belarus every century.
