I failed at it. I always wanted to graduate from a beer drinker to the guy who puts down half a dozen shots of bourbon every night. I mean, I like it, but I just can't drink that much of the hard stuff. So I kept one bottle for when I have a cold, and the rest I made into vanilla.

In the process, I kind of lost my interest in beer as well. I went for the golden ring and lost everything.

Poorly. I drank for 10 years but have been.clean for at least 2 years and frankly I don't miss it. My biggest regret? What it did to my body. It ages you and I've been on a 24 month grind getting back to where I was even 7 years ago, but I implicitly understand I'll never get back 100%

I'll feel lucky if I can get back 70%, but even that seems unlikely.

Man I miss smoking weed occasionally. Why is that federally illegal but not alcohol. More people die a year from alcohol poisoning than have ever died from weed purposes. Also when's that last time you've been unable to control your faculties when high? Yet every time your drunk you.can really control yourself ...feelz gay man

Serious answer. I never drink during the day, and only crack my first beer after 6pm (my former time was 5, and I'm working towards 7).

I also never smoke weed during the day, and only do it in teensy amounts at night to tweak my beer buzz. One gram will last me close to a month, srsly. Modern weed should only be used in careful amounts imo.

I've just accepted that my life is relatively better if I don't quit drinking altogether, because dealing with rl without any mental insulation is not a happy prospect, because I've tried it, and it just makes me want to kys myself.

The trick is in keeping your schedule under control. Day-drinking is a life-killer every time, but depending on your job (I was a welder in an earlier life), getting paled every night but going to bed at a decent time is a-okay. Hope that helps.

This is good advice, keep a schedule. I get up in the morning and get some things done, then don't drink until the evenings. I also completely quit for a few months a year. I usually stop drinking around November, after hurricane season, then don't drink any until around February/March.

If you factor in the amount you drink into your total caloric intake for the day.
I'm fit and usually drink about 2x a week on my rest days.
Malbec or Pinot are only about 570 calories/bottle. Don't drink beer. I don't drink soda or eat chips or junk food. To me the wine is my treat.
If I wasn't a workout nut I would probably be drunk almost every night.

I wasn't an alcoholic I was a PROBLEM DRINKER! God, you sound just like my ex. And I dealt with it the only way a rational, intelligent MALE should. I quit. I stopped putting bottles and cups with alcohol infused liquids up to my lips, pouring a little in, and the swallowing it until I blacked and woke up with an ugly woman. Was it easy, no. Was it doable? Yes. And it builds a little character and backbone teaching yourself how to resist temptation. You can't buy that with your debit card.

If that's what you think, that's what you should do. I think everyone shoud know their limits and whether they should be using a particular drug at all. I have to abstain from anything addictive. It's just my flaw. My brother doesn't have that same issue. He can dabble, walk away, dabble some more. But I have to abstain 100%.

I used to manage restaurants. I have met a half dozen people like that. It's almost worse than people who can't get away with it. Like people who CAN afford their opiate habit. You can develop a really bad habit and get in some real shit when there is nothing to check you.

The alcohol industry is powerful and always has been. alcohol is a cultural artifact over thousands of years. its socially accepted, its in the bible. the alcohol industry didnt want competition. what happened with legal cannabis in various locations is big money needed years to get in place and then various locations modified the legal status of weed. So most weed operations now are big money

I just convinced myself stopping was nbd and gradually tapered off til I stopped. Once I stopped I went like 3 years not touching alcohol and now I drink like occasionally, basically holidays and special days or celebrations. That’s it. Idk it was actually easier than I expected once I internalized that it was doable and the right thing to do.

Story time.
I have always been an alcoholic. I had my first swig of vodka from my friends grandfather's liquor cabinet at age 11 and I pretty much didn't set the bottle down until I was 37 or 38. Saying my drinking was out of control would have been a massive understatement. Luck was on my side throughout most of my worst decisions. Never got a dui but I drove drunk every day. Almost killed me and friends more than once but always got lucky. Narrow misses with more than 1 power pole. Obviously fights and assaults. Lost more than I won. Quit drinking when my father died. He hated how much I drank. Wish I would've done it sooner.

I had never felt an urge to drink before and I had binge drank a lot in my army days.
What did it for me was the isolation during covid. We had some retarded as fuck lockdowns in Canada and I live alone. At one point we couldn't even do more than pickup orders at stores... I started at one bottle of wine a week. To 2-3/week. Then Wine didn't do it so I started drinking whole bottles of liqour and was drunk about 5 days a week.
The only thing that got me right was getting back to being a health nut. I made an at home gym and started to workout out 4-5x a week. You gotta replace it with something else.
I still drink a bottle to 2 bottles of wine a week.

I went on the road at 17. First it was alcohol weed and X then lots of lsd and some heroin opiom. I did pretty much every drug known to man while on the road, but alcohol was always my go to. I started puking blood on the ride back from a show when I was 22 years old. I had almost drank myself to death already. I came off the road and stopped drinking for the next ten years after that.
