What is not rational about it? There are lots of reasons certain things are illegal to purchase, but those things are still purchased in spite of any laws to the contrary. If OF did not exist, another company would take its place, or they all go back to how it was back in the day and develop their own websites and use established payment platforms (and new ones are going to come out due to the shit MC/Visa/Paypal are pulling).
